Description

A comforting and savory dish featuring juicy meatballs smothered in a rich French onion gravy and melted cheese.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or ½ teaspoon dried)
  • 1½ cups shredded Gruyère or mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until just combined.
  2. Form into evenly sized meatballs.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and brown meatballs on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add sliced onions and cook until soft and deeply caramelized.
  5. Pour in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Stir and bring to a simmer.
  6. Return meatballs to the skillet and simmer for 10–15 minutes until cooked through.
  7. Sprinkle cheese over the top, cover, and let melt until bubbly. Serve hot with crusty bread.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, use a mix of Gruyère and mozzarella cheese.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or pasta if preferred.
